A Fun Day Out at Holliday Park

Holliday Park in Indianapolis IN

Living in a city can get stressful, which makes having a getaway destination essential. Holliday Park is a huge park six miles north of downtown Indianapolis with everything you need to relax and recuperate. Indianapolis Monthly Magazine often rates it the best park in Indy, and once you’ve seen it, you’ll understand why. Dr. Craig Arive, dentist in Indianapolis IN and his dental staff love to visit the park on their days off.

The park sits along the White River banks and has several natural springs and a woodland pond. There are plenty of paths to explore, as well as several hiking trails to get your heart rate up. Since the park has over 400 plant species, many animals have also made the park their home. You can expect to see deer, fox, rabbits, and beavers on your strolls.

Amenities

Nature Center

The Nature Center is a 13,000 square foot facility that teaches visitors about the natural world in a hands-on, discovery-based manner. The Habitat Hall has several exhibits that contain live animal enclosures, interactive displays, and an elevated viewing area. You can observe birds in the dedicated viewing area or relax in the library with your favorite nature book.

Playground

The playground has something for kids of every age. There are tunnels, bridges, and forts for younger kids to explore, while older children will enjoy tackling the rock climbing wall or spider web or testing their bravery on several slide towers. There are also dedicated picnic tables if you prefer to sit back, relax, and enjoy the tranquil scenery.

Ruins at Holliday Park

The Ruins at Holliday Park have plenty of history behind them and are now accessible to the public after a 20-year hiatus. The revitalized space has several new gardens, shimmer fountains, and a children’s water table. Plus, it’s the perfect space for special events and occasions.

Trails

Despite being in the city, Holliday Park has over 3.5 miles of hiking trails that go through densely wooded ravines, natural springs, and even past the White River. It’s the perfect place to get in touch with nature without driving out to Mammoth Caves or Indiana Dunes. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot some of the indigenous species that make Holliday Park their home in the city.

Events

The park hosts several different events as well as year-round educational programming. Some of the most popular regular events include sunrise and outdoor yoga, gardening workshops, and regular creature features with one of the park’s animal ambassadors.
